ABOUT THE CLUB

Hutton Shotokan Karate Club is a long standing Karate club, established 1982 by Sensei Mike Johnstone, affiliated to the Karate Union of Great Britain KUGB.

We are loctaed at Hutton Grammar School, Hutton, Preston, and we welcome all levels, both Children (aged 7 years and above) and Adults.

OUR INSTRUCTORS

Sensei Mike Johnstone

Mike was first introduced to Karate in 1975, following a friend to a local club. Being inspired bay what he saw, Mike changed disciplines from his Boxing study, to Karate, going on the found Hutton Shotokan Karate Club in 1982.

Mike is long standing member of the KUGB, with almost 50 years membership.

For over 40 years at the club, as a qualified KUGB Instructor, Mike has seen many members achieve Black Belts, as well as students having good competition success also, many of whom have made it to National Squads. 

Mike Graded to Rokudan (6th Dan) in April 2017.

Sensei Daniel Robinson

Daniel started training Shukokai Karate in 1987, before joining the KUGB and Shotokan style, a couple of years later, going on to pass Shodan (Black Belt) in 1995, at this time a member of Penwortham SKC, under Sensei Pete Vose.

A number of years later, and at the suggestion of his sister, Nicola, 1st Dan and member of Hutton SKC, Daniel went along to, and subsequently joined, Hutton SKC under Sensei Mike Johnstone.

Daniel is a long standing member of the KUGB, over 35 years. As well as being a qualified KUGB Instructor Daniel is also a qualified KUGB Instructor Assessor and KUGB Judge.

Daniel Graded to Rokudan (6th Dan) in April 2025.

Sensei Daniel Robinson

Sensei Mark Tierney

Mark, after a brief spell in the late 80s, returned to training at in 2012, at Hutton SKC, under Sensei Mike and Sensei Daniel. Fully committing to training, he went on to pass Shodan (Black Belt) in 2015.

As a qualified KUGB Instructor, Mark now regularly instructs at the club alongside Sensei Mike and Sensei Daniel, as well as also keeping up with his own training. 

Mark is a qualified KUGB Judge.

Mark Graded to Sandan (3rd Dan) in April 2025.
